Lecturer, Fred Ayokhai, and his children have been charged by Nasarawa State police with assaulting a 20-year-old student.
Ayokhai,53, an associate professor at the Department of History and International Relations at the Federal University of Lafia in Nasarawa, was caught on camera with his children assaulting and stripping naked a woman named Blessing Mathias.
On Saturday, October22, the lecturer and his children, Emmanuela Ayokhai,18, Bob Praise Ayokhai,23, and Saint-Dan Ayokhai,21, were arrested.
According to the State Police Command's spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, the accused were arraigned on Wednesday, October26,2022, at High Court1, Lafia, before Justice Aisha Aliyu, the state's Chief Judge.
He explained that they were arraigned on six count charge of criminal conspiracy, house breaking and criminal force or assault to woman with intent to outrage modesty, kidnapping and inflicting physical injury on another.
According to the statement, the offences are punishable under Section 97 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, Section 3(1) & 4 of the Nasarawa State Kidnapping (prohibition) Law, 2019, Section 268 (2) & 354 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria and Section 3 (1) of the Nasarawa State Violence Against Persons (prohibition) Law, 2019.
The case has been assigned to High Court, Obi for trial while the suspects have been remanded in prison custody pending formal arraignment.
