The United Kingdom's Queen Elizabeth II is dead.
The announcement was made in a brief statement by the Royal Family on Thursday evening.
“The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
“The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow”, it reads.
The 96-year-old head of the Commonwealth was born in Mayfair, London on April 21, 1926.
She was the first child of the Duke and Duchess of York. Her father was enthroned in 1936.
